Surveyor Driver Routes

   I am new to Trainz and I love it.....I am able to handle most of the driver sessions and I have even had a few attempts at designing a route from scratch with the  Surveyor, but soon realised that for the time being, designing my own route is far too difficult and I will try it again later when I have got more experience.
So,  My question here is.....How do I use the Driver Surveyor sessions?....There doesn't seem to be much point to them......How do you seasoned trainz users make use of the Driver/Surveyor sessions? Sorry if this seems to be a silly question but I can't see anything in the manual that explains Drivier/Surveyor sessions clearly....................Thank you.......................Jim Jameson
