That sucks! Would be compensation if they were to replace it with more 767's! But to go to smaller Airbus?! Not good

I was just wondering that seeing as BA are getting rid of the 757s it wouldn't long before the 767's are gone, because don't they use the commonality to have the pilots trained on both types?
I think they are replacing them with smaller Airbus as apparently their passenger load hasn't been good lately so i suppose going for a smaller option is appropiate, but still shame about the 757's and yes Chris it sucks! Big time!!

They've got 6 orders on the 777-300ER though. Coming into service in 2010.
Matt.

Not good! I heard that most airliners will be retiring their 757's and ordering new 787 dreamliners instead. |

The 787 will mainly be used to replace the 767 Tom, with the new 737's replacing the 757 ( take Thomson for example) but if Airlines order the 787-300 then yes that could be used to replaced the 757's as it's a short haul version anyway.

New Airbus A320 family aircraft will join the fleet, but no numbers were given.
Yippee airbus rules, lets start another Airbus/Boeing debate.
No! I'm just kidding, please lets not.

I think there may have been a hint of sarcasm in his comment, Tom.

It may be that BA may order additional A321s as they can carry around about the same number of passengers as the 757s do in their current BA Cabin configuration. When all is said and done the A321 is more efficient and uses a lot less fuel than the 757.
I am not surprised that they are going soon, they [BA] have wanted to part company with them for a while (they sold a load to DHL several years ago). I have flown on BA's 757 when I had flown from Istanbul returning to Heathrow and the interior was looking very dated. I flew on the BA 767 to Istanbul a few years later and again the interior is showing its age (despite being seated in Club Europe). Especially when the two TVs showing the in-flight movie are great big boxes suspended from the cabin ceiling and both tv screens have different levels of screen dis-colouration.
Out of all the Boeing aircraft, the 757 is the only one I liked because of its narrow fuselage and distinctive nose-shape. But look on the bright side, BA will still use them for Open Skies.
Perhaps now is the time to mention that I am pro Airbus

The 757 is a legend! It carries the Vice President at times, it serves the New Zealand Air Force, not to mention United 93 was a 757!

The problem is that they have too many aircraft that are too similar in size.
Any 319s with aux fuel tanks on order? Those things have intercontinental range. A nice aircraft with total flexibility, especially if upgraded with steep approach capability - you can go anywhere with them! Best regards, Vulcan. |
