I have a question regarding the Sperry autopilot.
I can set it correctly: just fly straight and level on specified course, set the sperry to correct course, so both "match". Set throttle, props, mixture and elevator trim to get level flight, then set Sperry to "on". The a/c flies on desired course, but altitude always slowly increases. I can not get it to fly level using the elevator knob on the sperry. What am I doing wrong? |

Try reducing your throttle a little.

Natural tendency to gain height as fuel burns off reducing weight.

Reducing throttles does not make sense, since I'm at normal cruise settings. In any case, it does not help for long.
I know of the natural tendency as fuel burns of, but it doesn't happen over time, but rather quickly after setting the sperry to on. any other pointers? |
