How can I install outside the default P3D directory please?

The Installer points to the default directory, by default, and if it is changed to any other directory one gets the "Selected Flight Simulator not found in this location" message...

You could try making a dummy Prepar3D.exe file in the directory in which you want to install it --
(i.e. D:\Aircraft\Piper_Arrow)

Sometimes that works.

Keep in mind if you do that, it may install Effects and so forth(in D:\Aircraft\Piper_Arrow\Effects), which the sim wants in D:\P3D\Effects.  Having non-stock effects files in the P3D dir structure is not tidy at all, is it?   The way around that is to use add on xml.   I use Lorby's AddonOrganizer tool to set up the xml, since it is easier for me, than manually doing it.
