I was using the FMC version. Following the tutorial instructions (apart from the INS part) I was able to do everything up to the point of arming the altitude. The arm button didn't light up (The nav did). I couldn't set the rate of climb either. 

After take off (among another issue due to incorrectly setting the engineer panel) I couldn't hand control to the auto pilot: couldn't arm any AP mode apart from Alt hold. The nav was lit up but didn't seem to follow the FMC FP. The ATS and IAS mode seemed to work.
