Hi all
The new service pack looks great so far. Can anyone tell me if the DC-8 series has voice V-speed call-outs. If so I have not yet been able to make them work.
Thanks
Warren (aspen31)

It doesn't have V-speed call outs. You can still use the speed bugs for reference.

Here's a handy freeware utility that will provide V-Speed callouts, amongst very many other features:

Hi
Thanks very much. I've been playing with FSX Jelair and one other for a Beech 200 but I'll have a look at this one.
All the best!

Hi
I'm sorry to sound ignorant!
But where do I obtain the V-speeds in the first place?
So far I haven't found anything in the manuals or in the FMS menus (where there is one of course!).
Am I missing some big thing here?

Hi,

Try this DC-8 Ops Manual:

Hope it helps!

Much appreciated Fabio
Shortly after I posted the above, I managed to locate some hidden(!!) files in each individual aircraft directories (in *\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes) in .htm format summarizing performance data.

Example:
jf_DC-8-53_ref.htm

I wonder why these were not made available from any installation directory menus.
Anyone else knowing of any magic "streamlined" version similar to the ones provided by other developers?

Many thanks

Hi,
I believe that those are available within the sim via the Shift-10 checklist, flightplan etc utility.
Good catch, I missed that one!

Hi
I cannot find any such menu! In fact Shift-10 does not make practical sense (no 2 digits!)
For example on DC-8-63CF I only have Shift-1 for GPS and Shift-2 for FMS and that's it.

Actually I was looking for a hidden "UTILITY" inside the DC-8 directories when I discovered the aforementioned .htm files.

So, there is a UTILITY that I'm missing out on....Stern SmileErmm

Apologies, it was a minor typo on my part.
Essentially I was referring to the built-in FSX/P3D utility called the “Kneeboard” after the A4/A5 sized clipboards (GA) pilots carry with them to hold charts, maps, stopwatches, reference cards, prayer books, etc. At least that is more red or less what line held, except for the last item.
The correct command is Shift-F10.

You're right. I found it!
I guess I'm too used to SimIcons!!!!

Happy new year to you too...
Now a marginally related question:
Where do I get the values for COG and Stab Trim?

Sorry, I’m unsure.
CofG is usually shown on the fuel and loading page, where you count the number of lines from the top to where the “X” is after loading fuel and pax/cargo, then divide by the total number of lines (perhaps best Google FSX CofG or similar).
Stabiliser trim I really don’t know.
I don’t fly the DC-8 often; I don’t dislike it, rather I don’t like it enough to fly.
The VC-10 has my attention for the time being. :-)
