Been into combat flight sims since the beginning . But ,due to health reasons, been away for around 5 years. A lot has happened in that time and i'm quickly learning all i can about certain combat sims available now. Only a few are really good, including some old ones like CFS3 and Il-2 '46, that have what it takes. Being the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain i installed the Just Flight CFS3 BoB addon . Been having fun with this one ! I have it highly modded but enjoy all the JF aircraft and missions. A+ CFS3 addon ! Also have the free BoB version of CFS3-(updated version coming soon) and soon to get BoB II-Wings of Victory that will round out the best BoB sims out there for this most important battle of WWII in Europe . Even if JF's addon is old it's still a good one . Love the Spits and 109s !!!

Hi Six,

If you're getting BoB II Wings Of Victory, it is essential that you go visit the A2A Simulations forums as they support the forums for the BDG Group that have done amazing work on continuously tweaking and enhancing the original release of BoBII WoV.
So many of the errors and bugs of the original release are long gone, it really is like flying a different sim altogther.
It is an old title now, but there is still NOTHING that comes close to the Battle of Britain experience that BoBII WoV gives you.

And the upgrades are all FREE.

Plus the team there are among the best of the bunch on the web for helping out folks with any issues running BoBII on almost any PC system (where humanly possible within PC spec limits of course)....and the amount of BoB history to read up on in the forums is mind boggling.

Once you get in to it, the BoB scenarios available in CFS3 will be flight sim history to you!

Have fun!
Rob

Six,

Thats good to hear!  I heartily recommend that your first task in heading towards getting BoBII WoV is a trip to the forums at A2A and check with the regulars there that your PC will make the grade for running it ok.
Although its an older sim, with all the amazing BDG Group upgrades it can be resource hungry and (sometimes) cantankerous to run if the right box isn't checked/unchecked (but please don't let that put you off, just keep it as a 'heads up'). Post your specs there and someone will be on hand to give advice sooner rather than later.

It's the ONLY proper combat sim of the BoB that recreates the battle in a dynamic world. The start date (July 10th 1940) and the start dates of the various stages can be kept to/met, however the overall battle is dynamic and you have to be on your toes all the time when playing the RAF, and as the Luftwaffe you have a lot of scope for conducting the air war at your desired pace.

It unique twist is that you can run the entire battle from the 'map room' as a pure strategy game if you want.
You can also specify just one particular squadron to fly with, and just sit at readiness waiting for the scramble bell to go off that takes you to the cockpit of your aircraft - all while the battle rages around you under AI control.
You can do the same but selecting a specific aircraft type to fly rather than just one squadron....
Or you can mix and match and do any combination of 'play'.

You can even get involved in aircraft production levels, strategic movement of squadrons, and also manage morale of pilots within squadrons, including rest periods, standing patrols etc etc.

It's the only sim that fluidly performs with several hundered (no joke) aircraft in multiple air raids in the air at the same time.
Leading your squadron of 12 fighters / flight of 6 / or even just a section of 3 into a head-on attack for the first time against 150+ bombers while the Luftwaffe fighter escorts fall down onto you is an experience!
Don't be surprised if you go for several days without scoring a confirmed kill....and savour the moment you actually perform a proper 'jump' on an enemy formation and get the upper hand (just remember it can happen back to you too!).

Put it like this - it is the ONLY combat simulator that has NEVER been uninstalled from my PC since 2005, and I've done a full RAF campaign every year since. It never gets boring!

Cheers!
Rob
