Magician David Blaine has set a world record by holding his breath for 17 minutes and four seconds on Oprah Winfrey's US TV show in Chicago.

The star was pulled from a water-filled sphere, and then said he had begun to doubt if he would achieve his goal as he considered his heart rate too high.

What a load of twaddle, 17 minutes and no brain damage.

Quote The current record stands at eight minutes, 58 seconds, but freedivers have held their breath for up to 15 minutes by breathing in pure oxygen. That is how the BFA believes Blaine will pull off his stunt.

Only way he could have done it I would have thought.

So not twaddle Piperman...  oxygen.

Could be nothing more than a good illusion though, perhaps a double walled sphere with an air pocket at the top or perhaps he's liquid breathing in a perfluorocarbon...Smile

He's only gone a couple of minutes more than freedivers do with oxygen though, so not impossible.

The tricky thing is, and what makes it less plausible, all the escapology stuff he was doing at the same time, all adding to the oxygen depletion in his blood stream.
