From the San Juan Islands Gazette, Thursday April 16, 2009...
Last month, a new air cargo operator opened for business over at the aerodrome at Eastsound on Orcas Island. Eastsound Aviation is a new player in the airfreight sector, and specialises in small, time-sensitive loads throughout the Pacific Northwest.
CEO Andy Sedgley, who has several thousand hours experience in bush flying up and down the western seaboard of BC and Alaska has now decided to 'go it alone'. He told our reporter - "Work has been coming in steadily for the past few weeks for the Dornier 27" (the company's first aircraft, purchased up in Canada - Ed.) "but I was surprised at how much demand there was for water operations - so last week we took an amphibian Scout airplane on long-term lease, so we can fulfil our clients' needs all the better. I've employed a local girl from Rosario to fly her and so far she is doing a great job!"
Eastsound Aviation has already built up a reputation as a reliable provider of air cargo services in the area, and has also now taken over running the FBO at Eastsound - "It was more HBO than FBO" says Andy with a wry smile. "The guys spent more time watching their TV than attending to business, but I'm on to them!"
Andy tells us that owing to his ties with Sandspit Air Services based out of the Queen Charlotte Islands off the BC coast, who sold him his first airplane, he is looking to open a second base when finances permit on the BC/Alaska border. "I know the area well, and there's plenty of work on offer up there for an old Air Hauler like me!"

On our unscheduled day off, I decided to take a trip over to see a friend at Comox AFB. He tipped me off about a C130 in very good condition that the Canadian AF were looking to dispose of at a very reasonable price... as soon as I got back to Eastsound, I went to see the Bank Manager, but apparently my credit score is a bit low right now. I've got a week to change that before she gets snapped up by someone else!

Well I got the loan, and got the Herc back to KORS ... just!
Had to land right on the numbers to get her stopped...
Then set to work getting her repainted with the company markings...
The trouble was, all the AI pilots said the runway at Eastsound was too short to use, so I had to fly her out myself!
Meantime, there is a Beech Bonanza, Cessna Stationair and Piper Cheyenne added to the fleet to handle the smaller jobs.
Gotta love AirHauling!

Congrats on getting the C-130! That's a hefty loan for sure.
