As often as it does, my mind always wonders off and thinks about crazy stuff that might, one day, happen. Here, I am thinking about a game that incooperates EVERYTHING.
Imagine it. Some brainy software people out there might come up with this amazing simulator I have in my head.
I'd imagine it to be an internet only run game were people would create their user id and and live, fly, fight, love, sail, ride, buy, sell and build a cybre life in a computer.
What I am talking about is this crazy game. With the world, planet earth, being a template to base it on. We would have our online account once in the game and we could go to an airport and suddenly step into an aircraft at EGCC (Manchester airport) and be in the FSX part of the game. Land at KLAS (McCarran), walk out the plane and suddenly step into a GRAND THEFT AUTO type of game. Take a hired car, that you would drive yourself, to the Mirage hotel casino and suddenly be in the gambling and poker side of the game playing for real money.
The night is late by this time so we can go to our hotel room and order our takeway (that will arrive at our real life door)!
The next morning you take a flight from KLAS to KJFK to go shopping. Anything you buy will be delivered to your front door. You would do your online food shopping before buying a gun and taking out other online cyber users, stealing cars and drug smuggling grand theft auto style.
Next thing you know you are busted by the police and have to serve national service in troubled areas of the world CALL OF DUTY 4 style.
When you sign into the game you could chose your job:
the police,
a soldier
a fighter pilot, fighting against other users
an architect, building the world sim city style.
You getting my drift?
Just think, you could go to silverstone to race other users, go to Austrailia surfing, winning competitions. How good would it all be.
The possibilities really are endless!

Yeah, but I'm not too sure about the simulation being on the net. Ok, it could be a massively online multiplayer game but I'd defo prefare it on my HDD. It was my dream long long time ago. Just not by MS... thank you.

Great Idea.
But it's a bit far fetched at the moment. Now where's my programmer (he lives under the stairs) and screw driver to create this virtual world.
What about if you commit murder in the virtual world you could be arrested (old WoW issue)?

Many Thanks,
Ryan There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician, the other is an artist in love with flight. |

Hi,
It's already here supposedly; "second life" was supposed to be just that (but without the R/L interaction bit). Best regards, Vulcan. |

Give it another 30-40 years and you will be all immersing yourselves in such things, courtesy of the latest quantum computers and holographic projections melded with force fields.
Or perhaps you will just have the virtual reality experience fed directly into your brain, courtesy of hyper WiFi.
As a Wise man once said... 'If it doesn't defy the laws of physics, not only 'will' it happen but it's 'sure' to happen.

Truman Show comes to mind when reading this. Great film; but far from reality. The Sims ???
WOW???? I don't like the idea and would not be involved as its too far from reality. Danger zone is that you can only do so much. A VA is far enough for me. Pete |

I have never heard of this Second Life Vulcan is on about. Still, I think it would be amazing. Then again. No one would socialise. |

Second Life is huge, it's got its own economy and people actually make a full time job of producing items for sale in the world...
I've got a free account setup on there but haven't looked in for a while, Just Flight used to have an area there I believe but I never got around to seeing it. We should all join and connect up... And you can fly already, with or without a plane...

Didn't the secondlife program feature itself on CSI:NY. I am sure it did. I just watched a bit on You tube and it looked largely like it.
Anyone what Mr Grissom in the CSI series. What a guy.

I'm sorry but second life is just seriously sad. You got to have serious problems if you "play" that.

Ummm, why? Some people may think someone who sits at a screen pretending to be an airline captain flying a scheduled flight from London to Paris is sad and has problems.
It's effectively a simulator and a form of social interaction. A form of entertainment every bit as valid as FSX, what's the problem?

. you make me sound a millionaire .
Well first of all their is no way you can learn poker without losing money. Their is no way on this planet you can do it simply because you just don't treat the cards the same. You 'gamble' with boarderline situations when 'plastic money' is involved were you wouldn't if $200 dollars was on the line. (all poker sites use US dollars as it is worldwide).
All I can say is I have read a lot of poker books. I must have spent about 300 pound on poker books over the years (Since June 2005) And it is only recently I have started making money. Think of it like an expensive college course that might pay off later.
Even then poker is an art. What I mean by art is you can't learn poker from a book like you can learn to be a doctor or a nurse. Poker players are in a league like football players. Everyone can try it but not everybody succeeds. I haven't. I hope I do but I haven't yet. You need to listen to your instincts and have a good situational awareness about you and last of all, you need PATIENCE.
You have to be able to read people. Look at them and build the best description in your head. Know were they are coming from, if they can afford to lose, how they play and what they play. Pick up tells and mannerisms. Then you might be able to win.
It took me $2500 to lose at poker to learn it. I always stayed with what I could afford to lose. I am very proud of that as some people can't limit themselve to their loses. Hence gambling addicts.
So there is no secrets to winning it is based on your knowledge, instincts and know the odds both pot odds and implied odds of winning a hand. It might lose you money in the short run but it will win you in long term. Which is what poker is about. Long term winning.
Pot odds is the bread and butter of poker. It is about knowing when a call is justified or not (if it is it will make you money in the long run, if it isn't it will lose you money in the long run).
I am not making millons from poker or even thousands just a 100 or 200 profit a day. The odd day I come out losing but you can't help that lucky card some people hit.
In my own opinion I think poker has a lot of ups. It develops an understanding of people. Situational awareness and how to make decisions. Poker is a lot about decisions. You need to make them on every betting round of every hand you play.
I have once read a book wrote by Joe Navarro, ex FBI agent. He talks about the tells and mannerisms people show in everyday life, in his case when he questioned criminals. How people, unknowingly give off tells from every part of their body.
He goes on and talks about the Neocortex and limbic part of the brain. The Neocortex is the developed part which we can learn. The limbic part of the brain is the brain that always remains undeveloped. The part of you that makes you jump when someone shouts 'Boo' at you. It is the part of the brain that shows your true emotion the split seconds before the neocortex brain kicks in. The limbic brain shows truth. Shows eyebrows raise when you see a pocket pair of aces dealt to you. (the best 2 card hand in poker). That is the short time before the neocortex kicks in and tells you to look weak and uninterested at the table.
This books is an amazing interesting read that anyone can read and understand. He only converts what it could mean at the poker table. It is not a true poker book.
Another interesting part is were he talks about the FREEZE FLIGHT FIGHT. (3F's).
We are like animals. Think of a raindear in the forest. And think of yourself walking down a cold dark ally.
When a dear senses he is in trouble it freezing and hopes it hasn't been spotted. We do the same. When our limbic brain senses we are scared, we freeze (think back to when you were a kid). That's the FREEZE aspect of it.
Now think about when the dear knows its being hunted and its death is imminent. He will run for its life.
We to, if we knew we were being followed we to would run to safety. That is the FLIGHT aspect of it.
Lastly think of this dear being cornered. It has one option left to defend its life. That is to fight.
Like us, if we got into a dead end of an ally and someone is corning us. We to would fight our way out. It is what our undeveloped limbic brain tells us when we can't reason with our developed brain.
All the 3F's are translated into poker and it is amazing what you can learn.
A great book for anyone to read.
Question:
What is the most honest part of your body?
Answers on a post card.
Sorry I have waffled on.
Anthony
You interested martin? I think you think I am made of money because I have spent a lot of money on a PSU and a 9800GTX when their was absolutly no need whatsoever and that I can't be bothered in taking it back. Well not really I just live comfortably. I have a normal job but recently done that much overtime that i ended up taking a massive 50% increase home over the year that has built up for when we do want stuff. (It is a short term lost of money). So I am not mega rich, just nice and comfortable and more than enough to pay the bills and have enough left over. But then again, we, me and my girlfriend, are hard working that do more than whats required.
Let me know if you want to take up poker or try it. I'll teach you a few things as a thank you for putting up with me and my computer
