I just noticed that activating either the inboard or outboard ejector switches activates a blue "SPOILER EXTEND" light on the Captain's panel (next to the orange anti-skid light). However, the spoilers do not extend, the related ejectors do, as it should be.
Normal use of the spoilers does not make the spoiler lite illuminate Curious -- some bad event assignments? I can't seem to find any info on whether real baby eights actually had an ejector warning light or not. |

The reason I believe is because unlike most jetliners the DC-8 cannot extend the wing spoilers in flight do to aerodynamic problems with the wings when the spoilers are extended in flight. Instead while in-flight to slow down, the two inboard engines (number 2 and 3) can be reversed to help with the lack of wing spoilers for drag. When in-flight if you extend the inboard ejectors and hit your spoiler hotkey the inboard engines will reverse to aid in slowing down during steep descents. I believe that is why that warning light illuminates when the ejectors are extended.
