What kind of runway performance does the Tornado GR1 have? I had assumed that it would require a reasonably long runway, but it seems that it is somewhat more capable in this department than I thought. Obviously it will depend on fuel and weapons loadout, but......just how capable is it?

There are quite a few variables which affect this, but off the top of my head (no manuals to hand) you're looking less than 5000ft at max weight for a normal take off. Quite sprightly, really.

OK, so that probably means that I will be able to get it in and out of airfields with runways quite a bit shorter than that if I have no weapons/stores/extra fuel tanks, and only a 50 per cent fuel load. Very interesting....
