Flight Plans

   Hello All,
I suspect this has been discussed before but sorry I cant find it in the forum.
I am flying the JF A319 using FSX and trying hard to get well used to using the FMC [MCDU].
The flight plan that supports the tutorial [Heathrow to Zurich] loads into the FMC perfectly, however when I try to load any other .pln file in Free Flight mode the FMC always returns an error. These same plans can be loaded successfully into the Garmin.
So I guess my question is what must I do to get a .pln into the A319 FMC ? 
Maybe I am limited to preparing the FPs using the FSX flight planner - hope not ? 
Can anyone advise me please.
