Recently, I was flying my DC-8-53 Air New Zealand, and I had the engines 1 and 2 on fire. After figuring out how to put out the fires, I put them out, yet the engines still ran at about half capacity. Is this supposed to happen?

In the real world, when you pull a fire handle the fuel is cut-off on the engine, any louvers or vents are closed, and the fire retardent is shot into the engine compartment. It would not do you a whole lot of good to extinguish a fire only to have it return.
