Hi John. Have you switched the AP master on on the overhead top left?

Come to think of it, think I found that
and tried that too...is there a sequence
that must be followed?...or is it just
turn that switch on and the button on the
panel?....or does that one you mention do
it all?....thanks, John H.

Hi John. Are you starting from cold and dark? If so you might be missing something out when you are configuring. As I'm lazy and don't have the time I start on the active runway and use the Auto start on the icon bar. In doing so, all I have to do is switch on the AP master on the overhead and then on the panel or P1 when I'm airborne.

If you are still having problems I suggest you contact JF support.

But don't give up on it, it's a great little bird when you get used to its' idiosyncracies.

Best,

Hi HiFly...thanks again....I too am lazy and
don't start cold and dark...lately I have been starting
the plane in mid-air after substituting it for another
plane....it flies, but maybe I am not getting everything
going...so will look for the auto start  on the icon bar
and follow your procedures...will let you know
...thanks again...John H,

Hi John I think the problem is caused by changing planes mid flight. You won't get the same configuration between planes especially the 146 in my experience. So swapping planes mid air is really a no no.

I recommend starting each flight from scratch beginning with the MS default aircraft and then loading the desired plane, airport etc.

It is best if you are changing between flights to end that flight or even exit SFX and reload it.

I hope this solves your problem.

John,

Two things to note:

1. The AP will not engage on the ground
2. Assuming you have the master switch ON at the top left in the overhead, I can only engage, and disengage, by pressing "Z" on the keyboard WHEN IN VC VIEW. A mouse click on the button will not do it. After that though mouse selection and deselection of all the AP functions/modes is just fine.

Hope that does it for you. It's a quirky AP, but once you master it, really good.

Enjoy.

Thanks Dave and all for all the suggestions...
tired everything suggested before Dave and
didn't work...in fact got more problems that just
the AP....first, can't find the icon bar to try to
use the "Auto Start" function...the icon bar is
just not shown on either of my 2D or 3D panels
...and you can't get to it from the "View" menu
....second, the bird does not respond to my normal
controller commands (like gear, flaps, etc.)...
so, I've got some other problems to deal with
...and I should mention that I'm flying in P3D
...I've had great success installing and flying all
sorts of FSX planes in P3D...this one is baffling
....will try Dave's suggestion tonight but my not
have much more time to spend on this plane
right now, as expecting new gaming computer
any day and just setting it up will take some
time...finally, I'd like to say that I'm simply
"blown away" by all the help I've gotten here
...just proves that flight simming is one great
hobby and is supported by some of
the world's nicest people...cheers, John H.

One last thing John ... don't give up yet ...
To startup .... in the VC view, just click on the silver button at top of the right hand horn of the yoke. That will give you a start on all engines and bring all your hydraulics, electrics etc on line, so your controls will be powered, and you should be ok. Don't expect to see your elevator move on the ground - needs 50 kts or so before it comes alive.

Thanks Dave....will try all your suggestions tonight
(is 8:00 AM here) and report in....am thinking getting
things started is not a problem, but who knows...
by the way, do you know which of the many panel.cfg
files is the "default" one?...like to figure that out so
as to add a little add-on called Digital Mini Panel ("DMP")...
the most useful thing in my tool box...see link below,
about 3-4 down page......it has, among other things,
a AP function...has been helpful in past when can't
initially find the plane's AP ...just use DMP one ...I like the
DMP so much, I have added it to most of may planes
...almost can't fly w/o it....cheers, John H.

Hi Dave..tried all you suggested...
no luck...could not find the silver
button on yoke...not sure that was
 big issue....seems like the 146
just doesn't want to run on my
current computer and/or I've not got
the same plane you do....getting new
computer today and might try on it
.....thanks for all the help...John H.

Hi John. You will have to re-install the 146 on your new PC. Perhaps the problem is an installation one and hopefully it will be sorted out.

Good luck with it and the new PC.

Hi All, I seem to be having problems with the auto pilot, it stays on for a long period of time, then all of a sudden it keeps disengaging it's self. It must be something i'm not doing right but haven't been able to work it out for myself and would appreciate some help please.
