I have a company in Alaska 4 pilots, 4 aircraft first 2 aircraft Kodiak float and cargo.

I then purchased a BAe146-300QT, some AH suggested aircraft jobs for the Bae 146 once I have accepted them, inform me that “one of the airports is too short”.

My solution was to purchase a DH6-400 this will land fully laden on runways between 1500 and 2000ft, my problem is that once I purchase it AH informs me that Rwy Req is 1000m ( 3280 ft.).

How are Rwy Req. for particular aircraft calculated in AH?

Hi there,

The runway length is calculated based on MTOW - it is NOT accurate to real world aircraft performance obviously, but exists so you can't fly a 747 into a Mom & Pop strip with an AI pilot.

Note that there's nothing to stop YOU flying there - the restriction is for AI pilots only.

For what it's worth, here is the table, from the Useful Info and Top Tips thread in this forum...

MTOW vs. RUNWAY LENGTH
MTOW Rwy Length Required (m/ft)
--------------------------------
< 10.000 Any
10-50.000 1000 / 3,281
50-100.000 1500 / 4,921
100-200.000 1800 / 5,905
200-400.000 2500 / 8,202
400-500.000 2800 / 9,186
> 500.000 3000 / 9,843

Thanks Slopey for the speed of you reply and for a great product and support.

A H is so good that it is sometimes difficult to realise that there must be some compromises in its design criteria.

I was going to ask a follow up question, but that has been answered before I asked it. Thanks to “allardjd”. I missed this on the Useful  Info thread.

My company operates in Alaska, small airstrips with STOL aircraft, these aircraft suffer (flown by A1 pilots) from the standard MTOW vs Runway length calculation, any chance in future developments of this being adjusted by the user?

Highly unlikely as it's then open to massive abuse. (747s on short dirt strips etc).
