As we all know the eurofighter typhoon is a very capable aircraft and it has a few customers. It failed to be bought by the Indian air force but im just wondering who else would by the Typhoon.

Look at countries with a substantial military and deep pockets. Subtract from the list those who already are in Typhoon or have a close interest in another 5th generation aircraft - that removes UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Russia, China, France and most everyone who's got a piece of the manufacturing pie in the F-35. Those include US, UK, Italy, Netherlands, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Turkey, Israel and Singapore. Everyone else in Europe, and some of those too, can't pay the interest on their debt, much less being able to invest in expensive military toys. Maybe two or three South American countries; Venezuela and Brazil perhaps, but the latter has a vigorous aircraft manufacturing sector of its own that is expanding rapidly and has no real need for a major air force. Who's going to threaten them, Paraguay? That leaves the third world - Iran is out because of sanctions - you couldn't sell to them if you wanted to. Ditto young Un in North Korea. The "stans" if they can afford anything, will probably buy Russian. I guess what remains are South Africa who have no real threats in their immediate neighborhood, Pakistan (a different sort of "stan" with no great love for Russia) who are always worried about India, and some of the Middle East oil countries with deep pockets, lofty aspirations and delusions of adequacy. I can't think of anyone else who is a likely customer. |

Yeah, you're right. Pakistan is pretty chummy with China these days too and were involved with the development of that AC. One other I didn't mention above is Japan, but I suspect they will buy the F-35.

So, UK, Germany, Spain & Italy... Joined by Austria, Oman (big bucks), Saudi Arabia (big bucks)... Not a bad bunch, and half the time it isn't all about capability in procurement competitions. The UK is very good at selling to the Arabian peninsular for example. |

Maybe so, but if you plan to sell anything to Greece these days, you'd better get cash in advance. EDIT: If they do pay, it will only be your own cash coming back to you, donated by your contributions to the EU and the IMF. That might not be half bad, since you're not likely to see it coming back to you any other way. JDA

Eurofighter closed their office in Greece in 2011 it seems. The Greeks had been trying to buy the jet (90 initially, 60 later on), but have been running out of money ever since (particularly after they were awarded the 2004 Olympics, which really was the start of the bankruptcy exercise).
IIRC there may have been a bit of opposition from Turkey in the early years too. |

I just read that Denmark is considering replacing their fleet of 30 F-16s. They are considering the F-18 Super Hornet, the F-35 (doesn't say which model, but probably A) and the Eurofighter Typhoon.
Since Denmark is part of the consortium building the F-35, I'm going to bet that's how they go, but they have mentioned the Typhoon, so thought it was worth posting in this old thread. |

Typhoon or F-35 would be win-win for the UK due to having "fingers in both pies".

Possibly more complicated due to their current use of M2000, and the Rafale has visited on more than one occasion.
Could be down to who puts together the "best package". BAES have been quite good at that historically, as have others, but don't tell the do-gooders as they'll send the SFO round! |
