Hi,
I would like to Test FS9 for use and speed by moving FS9 from my 250gig internal HD, to my new 500gig external HD connected via a USB port, but leave all my lots of FS9 addons for the moment.
Q1. Can I do this and without having to move my addons.
Q2. Will FS9 work OK using a USB port.
Q3. If it will work, I then plan to move all my FS9 addons.
I would like to do this to free up internal HD space to make room for more FSX addons. As I now use FSX more, but still like to go back to FS9 now and then.

There is nothing stopping you from moving FS9 to an exterhan hard drive however you will not seen an improvement and it is probably likely that you will see a negative impact as the USB transfer is a slower rate than an internal hard drive. I would try and move other files which you do not use so much but would not recommend moving FS to an external hard drive!

Thanks Nick for your reply. I have already moved alot of files , but if I leave FS9+addons and FSX+addons on my internal HD I only have 25% of space left, which will not leave me very much room for extra FSX addons. |

Your Internal hard drives are connected using a much faster way of communicating thus you get better performance in FS. Internal hard drives are normally connected by SATA connections and an external hard drive is normally connected by USB (most external hard drives are USB including mine but I use mine for data storage and to backup files). I think it is possible to get external hard drives with SATA connections to increase the speed but they are more expensive. IMO if you want more HD space and it is for FS, I would look for another Internal hard drive.

Thanks again for all your help.
If I now go down the road and buy another internal HD say 300gig. to add to the 250gig I already have and use one for FS9+ addons and the other for FSX + addons. Would I then have to upgrade my 300w power pack.

Mike,
Not the best person to ask when it comes to hardware questions like that so would ask your question in the hardware section if you dont get too much joy hear.
Hope this helps
