Hi, On reaching aprox 30,000ft whilst climbing using auto pilot climb rate set at 17,000 ftpm, the 747 pitches up at a steep angle then loses speed and goes into a stall, ant one got any ideas to what i may be doing wrong

17,000 ft per minute at 30,000ft? It's a 747 not the Space Shuttle.
The higher you get, the lower the air density, the lower the engine performance - hence, you run out of power, your angle of attack is too high, and it stalls. Google "Coffin Corner". |

Now im hoping he means, 1700.. not 17,000 oh how I laughed made me chuckly though... once at a decent level, i usually switch to using the mach scale.. keep an eye on your speed and adjust accordingly..

This has happened to me before in the default 747 except when I'm climbing above 15,000 I switch to mach and to a ascent rate of 1000fpm.Hope this helps.
