Quote Google must divulge the viewing habits of every user who has ever watched any video on YouTube, a US court has ruled.

The viewing log, which will be handed to Viacom, contains the log-in ID of users, the computer IP address (online identifier) and video clip details.

The ruling will see the viewing habits of millions of YouTube users given to Viacom, totalling more than 12 terabytes of data.

it keeps saying about people who are viewing the clips but what has it got to do with them, surely the uploader of the clip is in more trouble yet it doesnt say anything about them

Hi,

Whilst I agree that the uploader should be the one being nailed, it doesn't change the fact that viewing pirated copyrighted content without the copyright holders permission is illegal.

Note that if you watched non-copyrighted material, or material that could legally be uploaded to YouTube, you're not infringing.

ViaCom are only interested in their stuff, but it's where it could go that's the problem. If someone so much as used a copyrighted song as a background to a home-made movie as often happens, you could find RIAA knocking.

Probably the sheer scale of action involved will see that they target those that uploaded the infringing material, but still... it's not good.

Best regards,
Vulcan.

At this rate, Google would most likely take Youtube off the net!

Seriously doubt much will happen, except Google, Via Comm and youtube lawyers will get fat rich.......

Likely will move towards the U. S.  Supreme Court before long, about a year from now.
