They want unlimited damages.

4 months prior to this disaster, a non-BP Deepwater rig nearly had the same problem in the North Sea. Too bad for the US that Deepwater are a US company.

Whilst we are on a witch hunt, can you say Bhopal? Didn't think so.

Yep, if they were a US company then they wouldn't be going after them. What if BP shut up their US operations in order to pay the damages...

I really don't think that is true.  This administration would go after US companies given simular circumstances. BP is just an easy target for them right now.  I'm not saying it right or wrong, just the way I see it.

Why? Apart from it being politically convenient in some way (which way?) I can't see the advantage of nailing the foreign company any harder than the local ones.

Would be funny if BP made the oil they sell to the US more expensive.

I think we should. Our original nuke design before we were ... persuaded by the US to drop our programme and buy theirs was simpler, safer, and more powerful. Our scientists were in a mild outrage.
