Gaming PC for FS9?

I am thinking of buying a 'Gaming' PC to run FS9 to improve general performance. I wondered if anyone had any experience or recommendations with them and if a Gaming PC would be better than a 'normal' one. I would like High Performance really,

	Hi Missy, I have afew spec systems in mind but without a budget its hard to say, Whats the tops you are willing to do on the system? also would it be a pre-built system your looking for or building it yourself?

	I'd be looking for a pre built PC from a large company, eg PCWorld or Currys. Not 100% sure on price yet.

	Is the the primary reason for a new PC to play Flight Simulator ? If so (and you really like FS) then would it be worth levelling up to FSX ? Obviously this makes things more complicated, FSX requires MUCH more processing power and hence the price goes up. If you want to stick with FS9 then things are a lot more simple. I recently purchased a new PC (well a Mac) but before that I had a Dell which consisted of the following 2.6Ghz processor 1GB RAM Integrated 32mb GFX chip Despite the ridiculously poor system specs I could still run FS9 with practically all the setting wacked up and get decent FPS, with the exception of flying in bad weather, which was a nightmare (slideshow quality) Granted towards the end of its life FS9 became unplayable but that was more to do with stability (the computer would crash whenever it felt like, nothing to do with FS.) Even soaked in add-ons you wouldn't have to spend too much to run FS9 well, and to be honest with add-ons it can look just as good as FSX. Try and give us a price if you can, and think about whether you would upgrade to FSX. -Chris

	It is really. But I do want to stick to FS9. I use some complex addons such as Mallorca X, etc where I would like framerates in the 40's if possible. Is this a realistic target? Ideally I wouldn't want to spend much more than £500/600, but again, is this even realistic? But as said, I wouldn't upgrade to FSX! Thanks :)

	600-700 quid should be fine. You say you wanted a pre-built PC from a retailer like PCWorld. . . .well I cannot advise against this enough. If you really want to avoid the smaller companies like Wired2Fire and PCSpecialists and go with the big-guns, then I can only recommend Dell, who are excellent in my opinion, but keep in mind they cant be customised (overclocked etc.). They offer fantastic value for money and you get a good PC . . . .however, once you start getting into the big bucks systems, then value for money drops and you would be much better off with a company like Wired2Fire. Visit the websites I've suggested above Wired2Fire PCSpecialists & Dell Do some comparing. PCSpecialists and Dell are the ones you will be able to compare the most as Wired2Fire is a smaller company and can't offer quite as much. Come back with some systems you have in mind and we can evaluate them. And I cant stress this enough. . . . do not rush this at all

	As the others say, is this just for FS? If you are having this PC mostly for the use of fs then I would strongley recomend upgrading to FSX. I wouldn't recomend going to PC world, deffinatly not. I've had too many bad experiences. Your best bet would be to go to some place where you can choose your own custom specs. Alot of these places might put the machine together for you too. If not, and you don't fancy putting it together yourself, consider asking a friend or someone do to it for you. But I must say, actualy putting it together yourself, although it may seem scary, its actualy pretty simple. And there are many books that can help you. As for specs, I would recomend: NVidea G Force 9800GT AMD Athlon X2 dual core processor (Or quad core if you realy do want a mean machine) 4GB or 6GB DDR2 RAM As for motherboards, in my opinion you can't go wrong with ASUS You want a STATA II HDD. The size is up to you, 180GB should be more than enough DVD+RW drive, SATA II again. LG brand are quite good for disc drives On your case you want to make sure you have front and back USB and audio ports IMO the best place to purchase is EBuyer, very good prices on there Just my 2p

So you can't build one yourself, find someone who can. You will buy, from the likes of Comet etc, rubbish PC's that cannot be upgraded because a) they are built with proprietary parts that can't be changed or b) once you open up the back the warranty is invalid. Whilst on the subject of warranty, they will also try and sell you an extended warranty which will cost you your Mothers left lung and it's useless. OK, that's my two pennyworth. Now it's up to you.

	For FS9, an "older" spec system will be adequate! My system: * Intel Core2 Duo E6700 (2.66 GHz) * 4Gb DDR2 800 MHz * ASUS P5W DH Deluxe (i975X chipset) * 1 Gb GeForce 7950GX2 * Win XP SP3 * 500 Gb SATA II HDD Should be quite cheap now, and will be fine for both FSX and FS9 (FSX runs smoooooooth and quick even with heavy add-ons such as PMDG MD-11 at FlyTampa Kai Tak). If you can find a system of at least this spec, you shouldn't have any problems. ...and avoid PC World/Currys/Dixons! Best regards, Vulcan.
