Well, despite my negative vibes it did dock successfully, all praise to the European space effort. I warn you though, heed Asimov words, one day robots will take over the world. Nobody else seems interested except space nuts like me but in an attempt to raise the forum above the level of how posh my room is and the new forum's very nice [just kidding] here's the link to the video. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7328816.stm Amazing that the cross was spot on in the centre of the target. I think they have very successfuly proven the automation concept.

Hi,
You beat me to it! I nearly posted this up yesterday! It's great that it worked! I don't know why they didn't just get the technology from the Russians though. What kind of capacity does this thing have? EDIT: It's not as big as Soyuz-U: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soyuz-U
Best regards, Vulcan. |

Good job you didn't post it yesterday Pointy... It only docked at 2:30 today. I don't think The Soyuz had/has anything like this level of automation. The European space truck can stand off from the station, wait it's turn until the shuttle has gone, approach the station and at a moments notice back off again if the astronauts on board the ISS aren't happy. It’s hailed as the first time this sort of autonomous space vehicle has been attempted. I think you'll find that the Soyuz vehicle is guided by remote control from the ISS by the astronauts on board, it's not totally autonomous. And we have seen what happens with the Soyuz from time to time, renumber when it went haywire and smashed into Mire? |
