Hello,
With the prospect of a new PC, I am now looking to replace my monitor (17") with a 22" Dell I have found. However, If I got a widescreen 22" monitor, would FSX look stretched ? e.g. knobs being oval instead of circular. I really dont want this to happen, and I want to run it in full screen, not scaled down with black strips either side. If so would I be best of just getting a more square monitor? Thanks in advance. As long as you are running at native resolution or according to aspect then all will look as it's meant to. It's rendered according to the resolution rather than there being a fixed output that is cropped to fit the screen - i.e. no black strips. Keep the 17" and use it alongside the 22" for panels etc. |

When I went from a 17" (4:3 1280x1024) to a 24" (16:9 1920x1080), I did notice a little stretch with the gauges, accept for that everything was fine (Now I'm use to the stretch, so it don't bother me). Some add-ons will give you an option for "Widescreen" panels or "Normal". Couple of shots in 1920x1080.

In the FSX.cfg, under [Display] put:
WideViewAspect=True Sorted |

Yep, use the wide screen switch. Also, the panels in the 2d pits are just bitmaps that can usually be resized if dragged, the 3d pits are rendered according to resolution so respect aspect ratios etc. |

Just out of interest, what would it look like on a 37" or a 40" HDTV?

Not yet, but this is the plan with the new PC to have it rigged to a TV. Off to visit W2F in Dorking now!

It won't look all that good if its got a low pixel count. I've just looked at a 37" HDTV, and it only had a 1366 x 768 pixel count, meaning FSX would look better on a 17" monitor. Most TV's for full HD will be 1920 x 1080. So it will look the same as it would on a 23/24" Monitor, just larger. Matt. EDIT: Thanks for the code, Slopey. I'll give it a go. |
